There are three types of diamond wire saws in the stone industry for completely different applications. The first type is a mobile single-diamond saw rope used for diamond wire sawing machines for quarrying stone. 

It is estimated that there are 2,000 such diamond wire saws used in the world to mine marble and limestone in 2003, and about 1,000 are used to mine hard rock. The fixed single rope diamond wire saw machine is mainly used for block material shaping.
